Brass Stopcock
Also known as: main stopcock, mains valve, under-sink stopcock
The main valve that controls the mains cold water supply entering the property. Turning it off stops all water entering the home.
Usually under the kitchen sink on the rising main. Sometimes in an airing cupboard or utility room.
Chunky brass valve with a round or oval handle, typically 15 mm or 22 mm. Older ones have a round wheel handle; newer ones may have a lever.

Always turn off the water supply before replacing any part. If in doubt, consult a qualified plumber. Gas components must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
