Why we built this

After years of working across the full spectrum of plumbing and heating — from first-fix pipework on new builds through to full bathroom renovations, boiler installations and unvented cylinder commissioning — the same questions kept coming up over and over again.

Homeowners calling in a panic about a boiler fault code that just means the pressure has dropped. People paying £100+ emergency call-out fees for something they could have fixed in ten minutes. Landlords unsure whether a tenant's complaint was urgent or could wait.

The information was out there — buried in manufacturer PDFs, decade-old forum threads, or American websites that don't apply to UK systems. Nobody had put it all in one place, written in plain English, by someone who actually does this work.

So we built it. Hundreds of guides are completely free — no sign-up required, no paywalled answers. We also offer a Pro subscription for homeowners who want deeper step-by-step repairs and premium tools, and a small shop with downloadable PDFs. But the core diagnostic tool, fault codes, and most guides will always be free.

Who this is for

🏠

Homeowners

Diagnose what's wrong before calling a plumber. Understand the fault, check if it's urgent, and know roughly what it should cost before anyone turns up.

🏢

Landlords

Diagnose tenant-reported issues remotely. Know what's an emergency and what can wait until Monday. Understand your legal gas safety obligations.

🔧

DIYers

Step-by-step guides for jobs you can safely tackle yourself — bleeding radiators, repressurising boilers, changing tap washers, isolating water. Jargon free.

What we stand for

🔒
Gas Safe registered

Every guide is written by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We never publish anything we wouldn't stand behind in person — and we never give DIY instructions for gas work.

🇬🇧
UK-specific, always

UK plumbing has its own rules — G3 regulations, 1–2 bar system pressure, 60°C Legionella requirements, Part P for electrics. We don't copy-paste from US or European sources.

💷
Honest about costs

We publish real UK price ranges based on current labour rates and parts costs — not vague "it depends" answers. You deserve to know if you're being quoted fairly.

🚫
No scare tactics

Some sites push you toward a pro for jobs you can safely do yourself. We tell you the truth: DIY where it's safe and sensible, and call a registered engineer when it genuinely matters.

⚠️ Gas work is legally restricted in the UK

Only Gas Safe registered engineers may legally work on gas appliances, boilers, and gas pipework. We never provide DIY instructions for gas work — and we never will. Always verify any engineer at gassaferegister.co.uk.

A note on accuracy

We update guides when regulations change, when manufacturers update fault codes, and when we get things wrong. If you spot an error or something that looks outdated, please let us know. We'd rather fix it than leave incorrect advice online.
