If you smell gas, call 0800 111 999 and leave the property. Gas boiler repairs must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

The Ideal Logic and Logic+ are rock-solid, dependable boilers—but like any heating system, they can throw a wobbler from time to time. Most faults fall into a handful of straightforward categories: pressure issues, diverter valve problems, or settings that need tweaking. The good news is that many of these issues can be spotted and resolved quickly, often without calling an engineer. This guide walks through the most common Ideal Logic faults we see in homes across the UK, what causes them, and how to tell whether you can tackle it yourself or need to bring in a Gas Safe registered professional. If you're ever in doubt—or if you smell gas—it's always the right call to pick up the phone and get expert help.

Most likely cause & what to check

1

The Ideal Logic and Logic+ are consistently among the UK's best-selling combi boilers. They are reliable and affordable to repair — parts are widely stocked at City Plumbing, Plumb Center, and Screwfix Trade. Download manuals and full fault code guides from idealheating.com/support.

2

No heating but hot water works: this is almost always a diverter valve fault on a combi boiler. The diverter valve switches the flow between heating and hot water — if it gets stuck in the hot water position, you'll have hot water but cold radiators. Press reset once. If the fault persists, a Gas Safe engineer will need to replace the diverter valve cartridge (typically £100–£200 including labour).

3

No hot water but heating works: the reverse of the above — the diverter valve is stuck in the heating position. Same fix applies — call an engineer to replace the diverter valve cartridge.

4

F1 low pressure: repressurise using the filling loop (silver or blue valves under the boiler). Open both until the gauge reads 1.2 bar, close both, press reset. The Ideal Logic filling loop is on a flexible silver hose connected between the two valves — make sure both valves are fully closed after filling.

5

Boiler firing but house not warming up: check your programmer, room thermostat, and any thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs). An Ideal Logic will fire happily but not heat if the stat is satisfied. Also check all radiator isolation valves are open.

6

Ideal Logic boilers can be registered for up to 10 years' parts and labour warranty via idealheating.com. Always keep a record of your annual service — the warranty requires it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Ideal Logic boiler keep losing pressure?

Slow pressure loss is usually caused by a tiny leak somewhere in the system—check under the boiler and along pipework for drips. Sudden pressure drops often point to the expansion vessel (a small tank inside the boiler) needing re-pressurisation. Either way, you'll need a Gas Safe engineer to diagnose the exact cause and fix it properly.

Can I repressurise my boiler myself?

Yes, you can top up the pressure using the filling loop under your boiler—it's a straightforward job. Open both valves until the pressure gauge reads 1.2 bar, then close them again and press reset. However, if the pressure keeps dropping, don't keep topping it up; call an engineer instead, as there's likely an underlying leak or fault.

What does the F1 fault code mean on an Ideal Logic?

F1 is a low pressure fault—your boiler has detected that the system pressure has dropped below the safe operating level and has locked out as a safety measure. Follow the steps in this guide to repressurise using the filling loop, but if the fault returns within a few weeks, you've got a leak that needs professional attention.

My boiler is on but my radiators aren't getting warm—what's wrong?

Check three things first: your room thermostat (is it set high enough and in the right mode?), your programmer (is heating scheduled for now?), and any TRVs on radiators (are they turned on?). Also make sure all radiator isolation valves are fully open—a partially closed valve will starve a radiator of hot water and fool you into thinking the boiler's broken.

How long is the warranty on an Ideal Logic boiler?

Ideal Logic boilers come with a standard manufacturer's warranty, but you can extend this to up to 10 years' parts and labour by registering with Ideal and keeping up annual servicing records. Registration is straightforward and gives real peace of mind, especially in the first decade of ownership.

Where can I buy spare parts for an Ideal Logic?

Parts are widely stocked at most UK plumbing merchants—City Plumbing, Plumb Center, and Screwfix Trade all carry common Ideal Logic spares like diverter valve cartridges and pressure relief components. You can also download full parts lists and fault guides from idealheating.com/support to help identify exactly what you need.
